Ladies fifths lose to late goals

A young North Down ladies fifths hosted an experienced Larne thirds side at Comber last Saturday. Continuous early pressure from Larne had the home defence at sixes and sevens. However, a quick free from Rachel Moffit set Laura Murray on a counter attack and a neat pass found Abby McCague whose shot hit the backboard. Larne responded with multiple short corners eventually leveling the score to 1-1. Larne forced another sequence of penalty corners however the defence remained strong. Marion Sanderson in midfield and Hilary West upfront pushed hard to take pressure off the home defence and were rewarded when veteran West put North Down back in front to the dismay of the attacking Larne side. During another sequence of penalty corners from Larne, the visitors scored twice to take the game beyond a hard working North Down side and the match ended 2-3.
